About Redmond, WA
Located on the western shore of Lake Washington in King County, Redmond WA 98052 has a history that goes back to the 1880s. The town’s first plat was filed on May 11, 1891. Steamboats carried goods and passengers up and down the Sammamish River until 1916. As a result of the timber industry’s success, the Seattle Lake Shore & Eastern Railway opened its station in the center of town.
When the timber industry faltered in the 1920s, agriculture took over as the city’s main industry. Farmers built productive farms, constructed buildings for mink and dairy cattle, and fenced land for poultry. During the Great Depression, a large portion of the city’s tax base was cut off by Prohibition. As a result, many young adults went to other cities for work.
